Linda Michelle Mitchell
Linda was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. She holds a Bachelor of Science in journalism and a master's in education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She was also a juris doctor candidate at Howard University in Washington, DC, but after three semesters, opted to get married and moved to Florida to pursue a career in journalism. Following a brief stint as a reporter for the Florida Times-Union, Linda relocated to the St. Louis, Missouri area and taught elementary and high school students in a small private school. Later she became a parent educator for the Parents as Teachers program at St. Louis Public Schools, performing over 1,000 home visits to families of preschoolers. Her next role was a project manager for the Greater East St. Louis Early Learning Partnership.
Linda is passionate about creating an awareness of literacy and launched a nonprofit organization called the Metro East Literacy Project. Literacy is Liberation! It Takes You Higher is her YouTube channel she began in 2020. She hosts a popular feature called "Literacy Journeys with Linda" where she interviews people about how literacy impacts their everyday lives.
Being married to a professional photographer, Odell Mitchell Jr., has provided Linda with a plethora of photographs that document her children's lives. Her Photographic Celebration book series, along with her literacy organization, give Linda the opportunity to expand her educational reach beyond the classroom. She lives in O'Fallon, Illinois.
